O365 Weekly Digest - 12/16/2019

Every week I'll be posting a quick summary of O365 updates included in the admin weekly digest email that you can sign up for via the admin Message Center: https://admin.microsoft.com/AdminPortal/Home#/MessageCenter - these emails include items posted to the message center over the last week and come out every Monday.

Updates:

  • My Account/Office.com/Office Web Apps are getting a new account management experience (Roadmap IDs: 57078 & 57055)
  • Teams and Outlook are various points of integration (Roadmap ID: 57389)
    • Share an email and attachments from Outlook to Teams
    • Share a copy of channel or chat conversation through email from Teams
    • Reply to Teams activity emails via Outlook
  • Outlook is no longer adding new features and functionality to Clutter and moving towards the Focused inbox
  • Teams will soon be able to add participants to meeting chats (Roadmap ID: 59386)
  • Forms now supports file uploads (Roadmap ID: 59344)

Updated Feature: New account management experience

Update: Microsoft Teams coming to existing installs for Semi-Annual Channel customers
Major Update: Announcement started
The Microsoft Teams desktop app will be added to existing installations of Office 365 ProPlus on the Semi-Annual Channel on Jan 14, 2020, as announced in May (MC180551).Beginning January 14, 2020, the Teams client will be added to existing installations for customers on the Semi-Annual Channel.Teams will then auto-update on a regular cadence.This message is associated with Office 365 Roadmap IDs 51452 and 56828.

Updated Feature: End user profile experience
We’re updating the Azure AD end user profile experience to an account management experience called My Account. We'll be gradually rolling this out in early December.The roll out is expected to be completed by the end of the year. This message is associated with Office 365 Roadmap ID 57055.

Updated Feature: Microsoft Search Change to suggested Q&As

For the last year, we've been providing a set of suggested Q&As to help you set up Microsoft Search. We learned from customer feedback that customers prefer to create their own Q&As, so we are removing the suggested set on January 10, 2020 to clean up the list. The ability to create, edit, and publish your own Q&As will remain unchanged.

Clutter for Outlook retirement update
Major Update: Announcement started
In February 2019 we communicated MC173616 Clutter for Outlook is being retired beginning January 31, 2020. We received feedback from our customers and in response, we are going to postpone the retirement of Clutter at this time. Focused Inbox is where we will be focusing our development efforts moving forward and we would encourage you to transition for the best experience. Updated: Clutter for Outlook is being retired
Updated December 12, 2019: This message has been replaced by MC198011: Clutter for Outlook retirement update. As we previously announced in December 2017, on the Outlook blog, we will be retiring the Clutter feature from Outlook beginning January 31, 2020. To help our users manage their mail and be productive, we are leading with the Focused Inbox experience which provides a similar benefit as Clutter by showing less important and urgent mail in Other.

As announced at Microsoft Ignite 2019, Microsoft Flow is being renamed to Microsoft Power Automate to better align with the Microsoft Power Platform.

With this update, your users will be able to install Outlook on the web as a progressive web app in Chromium-based browsers.We'll be gradually rolling this out in mid-December.The rollout will be complete by the end of January 2020.This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 59250.

Our goal with Dynamics 365 and the Microsoft Power Platform is to help your organization drive more impactful business outcomes and take proactive actions that will uniquely position and differentiate your business in the fast-evolving market. As announced at Microsoft Ignite 2019, Microsoft Flow is being renamed to Microsoft Power Automate to better align with the Microsoft Power Platform. Updated Feature: Microsoft Teams Commercial Cloud Trial updates
Major Update: Announcement started
The self-serve Microsoft Teams Commercial Cloud Trial offer will soon be replaced with the Microsoft Teams Exploratory experience. This improved trial experience allows existing Azure Active Directory (AAD) users in your organization who are not licensed for Microsoft Teams to initiate a trial of the product.We'll be gradually rolling this out to our customers starting January 2020.

Quick Look at the Surface Duo Android Emulator

Microsoft recently released their SDK and Emulator for developing dual screen applications for the Surface Duo ( https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dual-screen/introduction ) and being a bit curious about what the experience was going to be on a dual screen device I decided to give download it and give it a try.  First Impressions First and foremost there is the novelty of having two apps launched side by side. The Duo emulator is using Android Version 10 and to be API version 29, both are the latest versions of Android. There is no Play Store or Microsoft Store on the emulator, which is to be expected as its main purpose is app development.
