O365 Weekly Updates - September Edition

Typically, every week I'll be posting a quick summary of O365 updates included in the admin weekly digest email that you can sign up for via the admin Message Center: https://admin.microsoft.com/AdminPortal/Home#/MessageCenter - these emails include items posted to the message center over the last week and come out every Monday. However I was out for much of September I have combined all of these updates into a single post this month and will get back to weekly posts starting next week.

SharePoint and OneDrive Updates:

  • OneDrive will become the default save location for files in the Semi-Annual release of Office. 
  • Sharing settings and access requests can now be managed in the Site Permission panel
  • New Sharing reports for SharePoint Online (Roadmap ID: 27034)
  • Use Flow to approve Hub-site Joins (Roadmap ID: 30552)
  • File Sharing reports for OneDrive (Roadmap ID: 56194)
  • SharePoint Site retention policies and retention labels are getting updates

  • Native Sensitively Labeling is coming to the Windows Office Apps (Roadmap IDs: 44920 44922 53147)

  • Updating the blocked file types in Outlook on the Web (Roadmap ID: 55100)
  • Outlook on the web is getting Meeting Insights (Roadmap ID: 46196)

Admin Updates:

  • PowerApps and Flow new licensing are effective October 1st
  • Intune Service Update for September: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/intune/whats-new
  • Microsoft is no updating Fabric JS and instead has been working on Office React, if you have an application in Fabric JS it is suggested to update this to Fabric React or Fabric Core
  • You can now specify a Product or Service when opening a service request (Roadmap ID: 54599)
  • You can now create users off a template in the M365 Admin Center (Roadmap ID: 54434)
  • Site Swap allows you to move a Modern Team or Communication to be your Root Site Collection (Roadmap ID: 51259)
  • New Privacy Ready role to support Data Privacy communications in the message center. 
  • Upload Center is being replaced by the in-app files needing attention UI
  • Dynamics 365 has released a timeline to switch everyone over to the Unified Interface
  • ATP's Automated Investigation and Response (AIR) is now in GA (Roadmap ID: 49537)
  • Improvements made in Exchange Online to replicate changes in AAD (Roadmap ID: 55023)
  • Zero-hour auto purge (ZAP) will now move post-delivery identified phishing and spam messages to quarantine. (Roadmap ID: 55432)
  • Updates to Quarantine Notifications and Alerts (Roadmap ID: 55102)
  • Basic Auth Retirement for EWS, EAS, IMAP, POP and RPS access to Exchange Online 
  • Teams is getting PSTN usage reports and the ability to block users from making PSTN calls

Reminder: Support for version 8.1.1 and higher of Intune App SDK for iOS
We shared in MC181538 that starting in September 2019, Intune will move to support iOS apps with Intune App SDK 8.1.1 and higher. Apps built with SDK versions less than 8.1.1 will no longer be supported. Apple recently announced that it will release iPadOS (new OS for iPad) on Sept 24th 2019. We have discovered a breaking change from Apple with iPadOS, which could impact Microsoft Azure AD and Intune customers that use Conditional Access policies in their organization.
