O365 Weekly Digest - 03/18/2019

Every week I'll be posting a quick summary of O365 updates included in the admin weekly digest email that you can sign up for via the admin Message Center: - these emails include items posted to the message center over the last week and come out every Monday.

New Features


  • Updated timeline for MyAnalytics
  • Microsoft Whiteboard is getting updates over the next 2-4 months
  • Shareable Links in Word and Outlook are being updated to align with expected permission levels (Roadmap IDs: 33156 & 33870)
  • Microsoft To-Do is rolling out targeted release customers (Roadmap ID: 34338)
In addition to the announced features this week, Excel now has threaded comments which should make it easier to track updates and collaborate in Excel.

Updated Feature: "Insights by MyAnalytics" updated timeline and additional control
We previously announced the rollout of MyAnalytics via Message Center. This message is to update you on changes to availability and additional control functionality. Starting April 15th you could begin to manage "Insights by MyAnalytics" at the tenant level from the Exchange Admin Center. Updated Feature: Updates to Microsoft Whiteboard

The Microsoft 365 admin center, available at, is the common entry point for managing all your Microsoft 365 services. We’ll begin rolling out the new Microsoft 365 admin center with enhanced features and functionality in April. This enhancement is related to Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 48639.

Sharable links in Word and Outlook for Windows and mobile
We are making updates to key Office 365 apps to ensure that document sharing by inserting links in Word, Outlook for Windows and Outlook for iOS uses the permission you’ve set at the organization level for OneDrive and SharePoint. This change aligns with the expected permission level for email recipients and collaboration partners when inserting sharable links into Outlook messages and Word. This enhancement is related to Microsoft 365 Roadmap IDs 33156 and 33870.

UPDATE - Updated feature: Microsoft To-Do
 Major Update: General Availability
Microsoft To-Do is an updated Office 365 feature. This enhancement is related to Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 34338. Starting mid-March, customers in Targeted Release will begin seeing the new Tasks experience in Outlook on the web, which is powered by To-Do. End users may encounter issues if you have taken steps to disable the To-Do domain.

Feature Update: Auto-Attendant & Call Queues administration in Teams Admin Center

We are updating our services with new features and fixes, the first of which is a migration to the Microsoft Teams and Skype for Business Admin Center (Teams Admin Center). The Behind the Scenes Scope of SharePoint News

I recently had someone ask if there was any way to disable the ability to send a SharePoint news article to an external party and after some clarification it became apparently that even with external sharing completely disabled in the tenant you can, in fact, send a preview of the article to any email address. After some research it became apparent that there is no ability to turn off this functionality which caused some concern of potential data leakage. For reference we are talking about the SharePoint news article 'Send to' functionality shown below.  While a credential is needed to access the full article, any email sent will include an article preview. The article preview doesn't show anything too worrisome as it is just the title, the first few lines of text, and an image but one area that caught my eye was the ability to add in the optional message. As you may be aware you have the ability to toggle on or off the ability for Microsoft to send communications to your users about content they are licensed for; but did you know you can actually use those same email templates to send communications to select user sin your organization?
