O365 Weekly Digest - 03/18/2019

Every week I'll be posting a quick summary of O365 updates included in the admin weekly digest email that you can sign up for via the admin Message Center: https://admin.microsoft.com/AdminPortal/Home#/MessageCenter - these emails include items posted to the message center over the last week and come out every Monday.

  • Updated timeline for MyAnalytics
  • Microsoft Whiteboard is getting updates over the next 2-4 months
  • Shareable Links in Word and Outlook are being updated to align with expected permission levels (Roadmap IDs: 33156 & 33870)
  • Microsoft To-Do is rolling out targeted release customers (Roadmap ID: 34338)
In addition to the announced features this week, Excel now has threaded comments which should make it easier to track updates and collaborate in Excel.

Updated Feature: "Insights by MyAnalytics" updated timeline and additional control
We previously announced the rollout of MyAnalytics via Message Center. This message is to update you on changes to availability and additional control functionality. Starting April 15th you could begin to manage "Insights by MyAnalytics" at the tenant level from the Exchange Admin Center. Updated feature: Microsoft 365 Admin Center
The Microsoft 365 admin center, available at admin.microsoft.com, is the common entry point for managing all your Microsoft 365 services. We’ll begin rolling out the new Microsoft 365 admin center with enhanced features and functionality in April. This enhancement is related to Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 48639.

Sharable links in Word and Outlook for Windows and mobile
We are making updates to key Office 365 apps to ensure that document sharing by inserting links in Word, Outlook for Windows and Outlook for iOS uses the permission you’ve set at the organization level for OneDrive and SharePoint. This change aligns with the expected permission level for email recipients and collaboration partners when inserting sharable links into Outlook messages and Word. This enhancement is related to Microsoft 365 Roadmap IDs 33156 and 33870.

The ability to share and coauthor documents with LinkedIn connections directly from OneDrive, SharePoint, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Online is a new Office 365 feature. UPDATE - Updated feature: Microsoft To-Do
 Major Update: General Availability
Microsoft To-Do is an updated Office 365 feature. This enhancement is related to Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 34338. Starting mid-March, customers in Targeted Release will begin seeing the new Tasks experience in Outlook on the web, which is powered by To-Do. End users may encounter issues if you have taken steps to disable the To-Do domain.

Feature Update: Auto-Attendant & Call Queues administration in Teams Admin Center
Major Update: General Availability
We are updating our services with new features and fixes, the first of which is a migration to the Microsoft Teams and Skype for Business Admin Center (Teams Admin Center). The rollout of the Teams Admin Center migration will begin soon for both Teams and Skype for Business Online tenants. This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 46094.

Quick Look at the Surface Duo Android Emulator

Microsoft recently released their SDK and Emulator for developing dual screen applications for the Surface Duo ( https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dual-screen/introduction ) and being a bit curious about what the experience was going to be on a dual screen device I decided to give download it and give it a try.  First Impressions First and foremost there is the novelty of having two apps launched side by side. The Duo emulator is using Android Version 10 and to be API version 29, both are the latest versions of Android. There is no Play Store or Microsoft Store on the emulator, which is to be expected as its main purpose is app development. But beyond that it appears that most of the Google applications are not included in the device and the build is based off the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) more than anything else.
